My Heart Divided

I am so bitterly torn. Watch this and tell me your thoughts...

Could it ever be as good as it was written?

On the B Side: Regardless of my personal distress these dazzling vampires will devour those wimpy wizards at the box offie on December 12th! Down with H Potterpants!!!!

I had seen the first one, but not the other three. I'm excited, but still having difficulty with Edward and Jake. I'm afraid I'm going to be severely disappointed. I'm not a fan of the chosen Edward and Jake and that's rough... especially the Edward. I might be able to warm up to Jake. As far as Twilight vs. Harry Potter, I think Twilight will win. I want to see both, but I can wait for Harry Potter on DVD.

Edward could never be as beautiful in the movie as he was portrayed in the book. I was a huge fan UNTIL he left Bella. I also really liked how Stepenie left Bella's description so ambiguous in the book. It was intentional on her behalf so readers could imagine her as they would. To see her or any of the characters dimishes anything you have in your mind.

I must say that I am sorely disappointed that you ride the Harry Poopy Pants train. :(

I was pretty upset (to say the least) with Edward when he left Bella too. I was pretty pi$$ed actually. That is perhaps why we might have some feelings the same.

As far as Harry Potter goes... sorry to disappoint! I enjoy the books. The movies are okay... more seeing it because I read it (I'm terrified I'll feel that way about Twilight though... seriously I'm not loving the casting, which I did with "poopy pants").

Ok so I really need to read the series again. The movie looks way good- finally a Vampire movie that I will agree to go see with Jazz. Can't wait!

I think Jacob Black looks HOT. I can't wait to see it. I think everyone is really hung up on the charachter choices but I think they aren't that bad. I think the movie will be awesome.

Kristin, I'm just messing with yo and giving you a hard time with the HP stuff! While I am not a fan I'll lay off because I know there are many out there!

I am so with you on being terrified about watching the movie! I absolutely loved the books and I do not generally read fiction...period. I worry that the movie will shatter the images I have emotionally attached myself to in my mind's eye.

I'm anxious to hear Clancy's take on all of this as she has read the three books so many times and also has experienced that emotional attachment!

Mic, I guess if you can get Jazz to the ballet you can definitely get him to see Twlight! Is your Dad stoked to see it? LOL!

Shell, So I had to go check out Jacob Black online and and happy tp report that I totally agree with you! I'm not so hung up on the character choices (although Edward is so much more beautiful in my mind!) but I do worry that the movie just won't depict the story as well as it was written.

Nonetheless I will be one of the geeks first to see the movie in December. The only problem will be finding a babysitter!!!!

I am feeling torn as well. I can't decide if I will enjoy the movies or not. I enjoy reading and picturing places, people an scenes in my head. It often ruins a movie for me. And I totally agree with you and not being able to portray Edward as beautiful as the book does. Also, I hate Edward too, since he left Bella, but secretly I still love him and want Bella to end up with him, not Jacob. Just my two bits. And for the record I love Harry Potter too. :)

Britta, you were officially my first comment from a stranger. It was thrilling...thank you! :) Thanks for the link! I didn't realize the movie was already in production. I worry that it's going to be too CW network...more violent and about the cheesy gore. The books make the vampires kinda classy and elegant, not macho and disgusting and I saw one scene there with a head being ripped off! I already know the movies won't come close to how good the books are. (But, I'm sure I'll be lining up with all the tweens to check it out anyways!) I just have to ask, have you actually read the Harry Potter books? They're way better than the movies!

Wow, Britt... lots of comments on this HOT SMOLDERING topic! (pun intended)

Having experienced this read-the-book and then see-a-movie-based-on-the-book process through quite a few books (I used to read fiction exclusively... and LOTS of it!) I must say I am prepared. It is never as good as your experience in your mind. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but, in my opinion, that's only true a small percentage of the time. In cases like these... a thousand words is worth WAY more than a picture. The images we create in our minds when we read are all wrapped up with our own emotions and interpretations. They become "our" experience. It is not so with a movie. There are certain movies that get closer to this than others, but none can compare to a book. In a movie you can not get inside the mind of a character like you can in a book... screen writers who are very good help... but it's just not possible.

That being said, I am prepared to enjoy the "entertainment" value of the movie, but my creation of the experience in my mind will not change much. I am not wild about a few of the casting choices... but I agree that Jacob is HOT! (he's cuter in the movie than he was in my mind, in fact) What is a struggle for me is to see these "making of" kind of clips before I've seen the movie. I like it to come alive magically on the screen, not see the weirdness or more accurate- the normalness of these in-process film clips, before the studio engineering has taken place. I hope that won't ruin it for me... I'd rather just see the trailer! (and don't feel like you are responsible for that... I had already seen two of these before this... thanks to my cousin!)

Regardless, I KNOW I will be in line waiting for this film! In fact, my friend asked me if I wanted to be a part of a big girls' night out to go to it. None of our husbands are very interested to see it... so built in babysitters! YAY! :)

And as for Harry Potterpants.... LOVE 'EM!!!! Not so much the movies... they're ok. But the books are some of my favorites and are quite simply...... magic! ;)

Wow! This is so fun; what a great topic! :D I agree with Natalie... I'm afraid they're going to put too much focus on the "power" of the vampires, but we'll have to see. I also agree with Clancy that movies never live up to the books they are based on. It's just a fact of life.

As far as casting, I think I'll be able to live with Jacob. He is hot, but I kinda' wanted him to progress, but that's hard to do with one actor. Of course, right now we're just dealing with the first book anyway. I know I'll get over it with Edward... he's just not fitting at all the image I had. His face is too round and his hair too intentionally mussed. Oh well! I'm still WAY excited that they're doing a movie and I hope it does awesome so that the sequels will come too! (LOVE MOVIES!!!)

Britta you're so funny! I don't blow dry my lashes! Lol! I use the blow dryer to heat up the tube of mascara so it melts when it's dried out- then I apply it!

Love your blog!

Oh, and yes, anyone can go to the sweet sadie thing! I'm going next weekend if you wanna come too!

K, I don't know who shan is, but I totally blowdry my mascara tube too! (that would be before I stab my eye with it!)

LOL!!

bv said...

hehe! i don't know shan either but found her blog on a friend's and was curious about the whole mascara thing! i'm relieved to know that you both aren't blow drying your mascara after it's been applied!

as for you missing...you need to lay off the mascara for a while!

HELL YES LADIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First off you Jacob lovers, I've got choice words for you but I will refrain and just leave it at TEAM EDWARD. This movie is going to rock as much as the soundtrack. Britta, if it weren't for me, you'd think Bella and Edward were just someone's pet fish or something. Don't ruin the fantasy. It has potential for being awesome because MTV is not making it. LEave your expectations at the door and just join me in lusting after Edward.

Douche, May I please serve you up with a side dish of guilt? The current state of my distress is all due to YOU. YOU obliged me into reading this and I had zero intention of enjoying it or even trudging past page 6 or 8. Of course we know how it played out from there and so if you and team Edward feel good about causing torment in the lives of others then so be it!

Michelvis said...

Good thing I can't feel guilt. I should go sin or something...
I just realized why you hate Edward. You're IN LOVE WITH HIM!!! You're bitter because Marky will never live up to Edwards passion and with that reality you turn to doofus Jacob who is more on the money. A disappointment. FACE IT! I know you too well.

P.S. I yu you Marky!
